Navigation Center awarded John Christian Schandy

From Montecon we share the distinction given to one of our shareholders that fills us with pride and joy.

The businessman received the "Pedro Campbell" campaign, for his career and his contribution to the port community.

The president of the Schandy Group, John Christian Schandy, was awarded the "Pedro Campbell" campaign by the Centro de Navegación (Cennave), a chamber of the private sector of Uruguayan port activity. The award was presented during the organization's annual toast in recognition of the entrepreneur's track record in the maritime, port and logistics sector.

Schandy played an important role in the process that led to the 1992 Port Law and in the restructuring by which the Centro de Navegación, then a maritime agents' guild, expanded to represent the entire port services sector in the country. Since then it has played a key role in the development of the sector, directly affecting the economic growth of Uruguay and the region.

"We recognize Mr. John Christian Schandy for his outstanding career in the maritime sector, friend, partner and former executiveof our institution", said the executive manager of Cennave, Monica Ageitos.

The "Pedro Campbell" campaign was established two years ago, on the occasion of the centenary of the chamber. On that occasion, the then president of the institution, Alejandro Gonzalez, referred to the decisive role of Campbell in the defense of the artistic feat.

"At the beginning of the nineteenth century, when brother countries forged our identities, accompanying the English fleet, Pedro Campbell arrived at the Rio de la Plata. The then sergeant was quick to adhere to the ideals of the artiguists. This Irish gaucho was appointed on August 21, 1818 by General Artigas as General Commander of the Navy. At a time when federalism was a burning flame, Pedro Campbell defended that artiguista light and is today a symbol of what we want to recognize in those who stand out for their contribution to the port community," he explained.
