Montecon announces measures to support the import sector to promote trade

The incentives communicated by Julio Branda, Commercial Manager of the company, will come into effect from October 1st. With the aim of boosting the competitiveness of the export sector, Montecon defined a series of initiatives that seek to further enhance foreign trade and the development of the local economy.

In the context of the complex reality the country is going through as a result of the difficulties generated by the coronavirus pandemic (COVID-19), Montecon decided to reinforce its support to the import sector with two new incentives aimed at boosting the engines of the economy.

The objective pursued by the main operator of the public areas of the port of Montevideo through this initiative is to facilitate greater consumption and exchange of goods, as well as to support internal trade and consumption, the basis for generating potential sources of employment and capital flows.

One of the new benefits is to increase from two to three free days without storage costs for containers arriving at the port and remaining in Montecon's custody. According to Julio Branda, Commercial Manager of the company, "this means that during the first three calendar days the importer does not have to pay for this concept, if he withdraws his container within that period".

At the same time, a tariff reduction was defined for the first storage band, which covers the first to the fifth day. In this case, the value will go from 20 to 15 dollars per TEU per calendar day. For Branda, this change will give greater flexibility and generate lower costs for the importer.

tools for the sector to access new markets and increase current export volumes. "We are once again reaffirming our commitment to the Port of Montevideo and Uruguayan foreign trade," Branda said.
