The U.S. Ambassador, Kelly Keiderling, visited the facilities of Montecon, where she was received by company authorities and learned about the operation of the container terminal, in addition to the services provided by the main operator of public areas of the Port of Montevideo.
The visit took place on the occasion of his official presentation to the authorities of the National Customs Directorate. Maria Ines Abreu, Administration Manager, and Julio Branda, Commercial Manager of the company, were in charge of guiding the visit and providing information about the company, which received the OEC certification a year ago and in this instance reaffirmed its commitment to cooperation with international supply chain security.During her tour of the terminal, which this year will be close to 260,000 container movements, the diplomat was able to observe the operation of a ship with three of the nine mobile cranes available and to get to know the GM 10, one of the two super post-Panamax cranes that Montecon has, which has a range of 21 rows of containers in the ship's beam, the largest of its kind in the world. The ambassador congratulated the company for having the first woman to operate this type of crane in South America and listened attentively to the information about the campaign against alcohol and drug consumption that Montecon has been carrying out for the last four years, in agreement with the union. Keiderling was accompanied by Mike Schreuder, economic and commercial advisor; Nelson Vargas, head of the DEA (Drug Enforcement Administration) in Uruguay, and Jorge Balparda, commercial specialist of the Embassy. They were joined by Enrique Canon, national director of Customs; Fernando Wins, manager of Risk Management and Control of DNA; Jaime Borgiani, manager of Foreign Trade; Andrés Méndez, manager of Customs Operations, and Eddie Fripp, administrator of Montevideo Customs.
