The Port of Montevideo faces a great challenge. In view of the new reality of international container trade, grouped into services that prioritize the use of large ships, the need to invest in infrastructure and state-of-the-art equipment is vital for ports that intend to remain competitive options. Within this framework, Montecon company decided to make a new bet for the growth of the Port of Montevideo and received its second Super Post Panamax mobile crane, the largest of its kind in the world, which will allow it to adequately meet the current requirements of the port activity.of Austrian origin, the new mobile crane has a reach of 58 meters, which means that it can work on ships carrying 19 rows of containers. In addition, it is capable of loading 100 tons under hook. The Liebherr company was commissioned to build the LHM 600 Super Post Panamax on behalf of Montecon, which invested US$ 5 million in the equipment. Our commitment is to modernize the port's machinery with the latest in the world. It is fundamental for us to adapt to the large ships that are arriving and that will be bigger every time, since the satisfaction of our clients and the fundamental care of the foreign trade are our main incentive", The executive added that the expectation is to continue expanding the possibilities of mobilizing cargo, since in recent months the Port of Montevideo has also begun to unload the equipment that will be applied to the numerous wind projects to be mounted in Uruguay, which opens a new market and multiplies the possibilities of generating sources of employment and trade links, "We are also concerned about being prepared for the new generation of ships of 22 and 23 rows, which will inevitably arrive at the Port of Montevideo. For this, mobile cranes will no longer be enough, but we will necessarily have to be able to use another alternative for port equipment, the gantry cranes, in order to have the scope and productivity required by these mega-vessels," he concluded.
