Montecon received a new mobile crane, a Liebherr LHM600, at the beginning of September this year.
This model corresponds to the fastest and most powerful equipment of its kind in the world. Its arrival is part of a plan of renovation and up-grade of cranes which seeks to replace all the units of panamax type (3) by cranes of these characteristics (super post-panamax) The new LHM600 allows the work in ships of up to 19 rows of containers of wide or 58 meters of reach, the speeds 20 % superior to the current cranes is also a differential point. Also, the operator's cabin is located at 30 meters from the floor, a height that implies for the operators the reach of a great visibility for the work in the ships that arrive to our port and for those that are to come.from the operative point of view, the handling of this equipment with extended tower is very similar to the one of the cranes that Montecon has today, although the new model increases the current capacity of 17 rows of containers and 51 meters of distance. The challenge for the operators is to get used to the larger dimensions and higher operating speeds of the crane. Manufactured at the Liebherr plant in the port of Rostock, Germany, the LHM600 was completely assembled and tested before it was loaded onto the m/v Damgracht on July 25. Once in Montevideo, it was brought ashore in a perfect operation from a technical and safety point of view. The unloading task included high tonnage packages reaching up to 150 tons and tandem operations, that is, unloading with 2 cranes simultaneously, which were executed in a great way by the experienced Montecon operators. For the reception and assembly operation of this crane of about 550 tons, a group of technicians from the manufacturer assisted the maintenance team and Montecon's operators in the process that extended until its complete tuning.
HMM America Shipping Agency Inc. chose Montecon as port operator together with the agency Brings Uruguay, prioritising the level of service offered and the quality of attention to the shipowner that for more than two decades has been offered to its clients.
